[Event Report] Kick-off for the FY2026 JEN Female Ambassadors to Japan Mentoring Program and the JEN September Regular Meeting Ambassador Invitational Event

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, J-Win Executive Network (JEN) held the "Kick-off for the FY2026 Female Ambassadors to Japan Mentoring Program" and the JEN September Regular Meeting Ambassador Invitational Event, "JEN Ambassadors’ Roundtable 2026." Around 50 participants joined us on the day, including female ambassadors to Japan and other diplomats, embassy observers, and top female executives from Japan's leading companies. The event was filled with enthusiasm, creating a space where world-class diplomatic expertise intersected with the leadership of Japan's top corporations.

Part 1: Kick-off for the Female Ambassadors to Japan Mentoring Program

This year marks the 6th term of this program. During the kick-off, the ambassadors serving as mentors shared messages regarding their own careers and leadership.

●Republic of Austria: H.E. Ms. Sigrid Berka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary "I was once taken aback when told, 'Men reply immediately to an offer, but women tend to hesitate.' When an opportunity comes your way, you must seize it without hesitation. Changing your own mindset is the most important thing."

●Burkina Faso: H.E. Ms. Bibata Nebie / Ouedraogo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary "As a former Minister of Justice and Human Rights, my biggest wall was the fear of heavy responsibility, but I was able to overcome it with the guidance of my mentor. I continuously tell young women, 'Do not set limits for yourself and take on challenges.'"

●Republic of Costa Rica: H.E. Ms. Sussi Jimenez Nunez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary "After a 26-year diplomatic career, I assumed the post as Costa Rica's first female career ambassador to Japan. Let us promote empowerment together so that we can convey to the next generation of girls that 'if you desire it, your dreams can come true regardless of gender.'"

●Republic of the Philippines: H.E. Ms. Mylene Garcia-Albano, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (*Video Message) "True empowerment demands continuous effort, sustained by robust institutional frameworks. I look forward to a rich exchange of Philippine and Japanese perspectives on vital issues."

Determination Statement by Mentee Representative "We are here not to celebrate our own successes, but to fulfill our responsibility of 'how to open the doors so that the next generation of women do not face the same barriers.' We will elevate our perspectives through dialogue with the ambassadors in order to bring about 'quiet transformation' within our organizations and society."

Part 2: September Regular Meeting Ambassador Invitational Event "JEN Ambassadors’ Roundtable 2026"

At the beginning of the Part 2 regular meeting, J-Win Board Chair Keisuke Yokoo delivered a powerful message stating, "D&I is a management strategy, and I want you to gain deep learning by challenging one another in discussion." During the roundtable, the Ambassadors of Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, and Austria, and the Philippine Embassy representative (Third Secretary and Vice Consul), along with embassy observers from the Netherlands and the UK, joined the discussions at each table. A multifaceted dialogue transcending borders and positions unfolded, covering themes such as "decision-making in uncertainty," "the strengths of Japanese companies," and "exerting influence without relying on job titles."

[Key Insights from the Roundtable]

●Organizational Transformation and Final Responsibility (Ambassador of Austria): While it is essential to listen to diverse voices, it is the leader themselves who must ultimately make the decision and bear all responsibility. The resolve to take on responsibility without fearing risk is what causes transformation.

●Overcoming Fear and Empowerment (Ambassador of Burkina Faso): The attitude to overcome the fear of responsibility generates growth. Respecting diverse opinions and cultivating an environment where women can take on heavy responsibilities without hesitation will maximize a team's power.

●Mindset for Challenges (Ambassador of Costa Rica): Leadership is the very process of continuing to learn anew every day. It is our role to create an environment and culture within our organizations where women can say "YES" without fear when asked to take on new challenges.

Seamless Conversations Powered by Cutting-Edge AI At this roundtable, a real-time AI-powered voice translation service was deployed at every table. Japanese-English conversations were transcribed and translated instantly on devices at each table, enabling participants to engage in meaningful, in-depth discussions without language barriers getting in the way.
